Was Gandhi a Traitor?
Note : I AM NOT A GANDHI FAN MYSELF.
Does Mahatma Gandhi actually deserve all the respect and praise we Indians give him? Did he actually fight for our Independence or just wanted a “Kursi” for himself.
I can’t answer this myself. I know little about the man. The only knowledge I have about him is from the History textbooks. I’ve read some more about him but that is still not enough for me to form an opinion. Arjun & Niharika are strongly against Gandhi. But are they right when they call him names?
Gandhi was a great leader. He sacrificed his luxuries. He was not a poor man. Infact he was quite well-off. Then why did he choose to wear just a Dhoti and roam around the country interacting with people, trying to make them follow the path of non-violence? He could have easily pursued a career in Law.
People say he was a traitor, he made bad decisions. Well, to err is human. Everybody makes mistakes - You & I.
Long time back, Arjun made me read this article - GANDHI: Traitor to the People. Now is the author justified when he calls Gandhi a traitor? I personally feel he is not. And neither are Arjun & Niharika. Everybody is entitled to his or her opinion but they should actually think when they make any comment. They might know just a little more than I do about Gandhi.
We all are the children of a free, independent nation. In addition to respecting our nation, our freedom, we also need to respect the people who were behind it, who sacrificed their lives, their comforts so that we may live our lives the way we are living today.
You might call Gandhi an ass-licker. You can call him a coward. But the reality is that none of us have even the courage to do the things the man did. The revelutionaries were great in their own way and so was Gandhi. We must learn to respect the great leaders and people from our country rather than criticising them all the time.
Finally, here is what Nathuram Godse had to say about Gandhiji.

Exactly.
And besides, is it at all relevant now if he was actually gud or no? Here is a man with an image which can inspire millions, so why not let tht image be if it can do so much gud?
And though he made many bad decisions, no one can deny tht his technique of non-violence has the power to totally modify the world for the better. Its the one thing which helps make democracy a reality.

hey rahul—-I USED TO HATE GANDHI
but well –that has changed now.
And i still have the article Rahul!!
And yes -there was something in this man—I realize that he does not deserve all the huge praise as he wasnt the only one who fought for india’s independence but he NEED NOT BE HATED for the missteps he took or the wrong decisions he made.
Remember friends that there was something in this man—-something that Winston Churchill who called him a ‘naked fakir’ in 1932 was forced to grant India independence about 15 yrs later.
His weapon was TRUTH and truth alone—-and yes truth at times is bitter.
I think many of us hate Gandhi because we feel we LOVE BHAGAT SINGH .But Bhagat Singh and MK Gandhi used different methods to achieve the same goal–Bharat Ki Aazaadi.
AND ALL THOSE WHO STILL HATE HIM please remember—–
“IT IS HUMAN TO ERR ,BUT DIVINE TO FORGIVE”
So forgive MK Gandhi for all his mistakes but Let us just appreciate this man because of his Truthfullness, his indomitable spirit and love for humankind and his country.

but ye .. my personal thought over it .. wud be .. a single line:
HE WAS A CROOK …
well, i really have no idea wat others have to say to my opinion ..

but this the way i feel .. to my knowledge abt gandhi ..
April 17th, 2006 at 6:15 pm

individual opinion—c guys, v have no idea as to what the situation was which forced gandhi ji to take those decisions which made ppl against him ! Rahul said that we know li’i ’bout him( courtesy: history textbooks). and, whopping millions of indians arent actually mad worshipping him, we have his ’samadhi’, all high honours n all that n trust me, no man can blow dust in our eyes for so many years—-its been 50+ years.
dey say dat every gr8 man has critics.
i dunno whether he was gr8 or ’twas his fate, but me says dat when we dun know the exact situation n circumstances, we should rather not comment—coz sumthings shud be left d way dey r !!!n i guess ’tis 1 of dem.

Good to see that today’s youth takes interest in Gandhi
Gandhi was a good in many ways.
But if we think that we got freedom due to Gandhi then we better start thinking again.
for all those who think Gandhi is gr8 let me tell U a simple thing.
For you a chair is a chair not table coz since u started understanding thing u was told that a chair is a chair
same way as soon as we start going to school we start worshipping gandhi along with bharat maata.
We know wat we are told and we mould ourselve accordingly. I am not an expert on this issue but I know one thing certainly Gandhi took amny wrong decisions. For a man who dont need to worry about his two end’e meals living in dhoti or wearing a Levi’s jean is pointless. I dont support violence but then I wont allow some one to come and slap me. In my honest opinion we better start searching for our heroes.
Lets not be Gandhi.
Lets be Bhagat singh.
Wear english hat but give life for our motherland.

I agree with you Kumar. I seriously wish India could make it mandatory for every kid to go join the army like in Israel.
April 23rd, 2006 at 3:46 pm
totally agree with u kumar. n no rahul, i still hate gandhi! if you are talking bout gr8 leaders den even hitler was an awesome leader and won so many laurels for his country… but do we like d ass??? no, because he was ruthless, cunning and fanatic! gandhi had certain qualities which he used miserably to make the public dance to his tunes. he thought himself to be a martyr, a saint! he was just a damn brainwasher and in their desperation and depression, the indians were ready to listen to any1 who would give them a faint flicker of (false) hope!! he had no guts but just wanted to get on the right side of the indians! bloody born politition!! conniving and clever!
April 23rd, 2006 at 7:12 pm
Faint flicker of hope….. well even Bhagat singh did that, even Mangal Pandey did that?
N it wasnt false…. he believed we cud get independence n that we did. I agree he was wrong about the excessive non-violence thing.
As for me…. YES I DO LIKE THE ASS. I actually respect him. You certainly can’t call the guy ruthless baby. He was a leader, he had the knack, he made the public dance, he even made the British dance! You won’t agree with me but yes he did.
He never called himself a martyr or a saint. The people of HINDUSTAN… be it muslims, hindu… they called him a saint.
Politician… ya that he was. And its good he was 1.
Just think… wud u do all that he did for ur nation?? You might call Mandela gr8, u mite call ne other person gr8…. but u gotta learn to respect ur own people. You want the other nations to respect India? Well if we dont respect our own people… the just forget bout the respect frm outsiders!
